Valuable Computer Tips for Coders

Valuable Computer Tips for Coders

As a coder, you want to have a computer that makes your work comfortable. After all, you sit in front of a screen typing on a keyboard for eight or more hours every weekday, and it is not great for your health.

The situation becomes even worse when you have extra worries about dealing with potential computer problems.

In this article, we will discuss some ways to choose a computer for coding and what you need to focus on the most to get the best possible outcome.

Manage Resource Usage

For the most part, coding work does not involve software that consumes a lot of system resources. Nevertheless, it is still important to keep tabs on background processes and such, so you do not run into issues with the computer performance.

A lot comes down to what you have as a computer. Some devices have lackluster hardware and leave you less room to maneuver with. Take MacBooks, for instance.

Some macOS users ask themselves why is my ram usage so high mac while using the laptop only to realize that there are redundant background applications which might not seem too demanding but still take a significant toll on the overall computer resource consumption.

Other than memory, there is also a CPU and GPU that function in a similar vein, and overburdening this hardware will also spell trouble, so keep that in mind.

Consider Switching to a Different Setup

If you have been working on a laptop or a PC, you can switch to a different setup. For example, using a desktop computer means that you need to remain in the same place and cannot really move around as much as you would with a laptop. On the other hand, a laptop lets you change the work environment. For instance, you could go for a few hours to a local library or cafe and code there.

On the other hand, a PC means better hardware, which is valuable when you need to run resource-heavy software. Moreover, desktop computers have large monitors that make the work more comfortable.

Get Accessories

Get Accessories

Like mentioned previously, you get the benefit of a large screen by using a desktop computer with a monitor. But it does not mean that you cannot purchase an external monitor and pair it with a laptop instead. It is an option, though a rare one.

Similarly, there are other accessories that can make work as a coder more manageable. The right keyboard and mouse can be the difference-maker between a comfortable experience and constant struggles. And this is particularly true about a keyboard.

Coders tend to pick keyboards that are easy on the fingers. Right now, the trend is to get a membrane or mechanical keyboard thanks to how it improves productivity in addition to not straining fingers as much when you have to type.

Try Different Operating Systems

It is no secret that Windows 10 is the most popular operating system right now, but there is no need to limit yourself to it. If you feel like there are better options for you as a coder, why not take some time and try them? After all, it is about finding what works for you and makes the job more comfortable.

Perhaps it is the user interface or available applications? Or maybe you have concerns about cybersecurity and believe that switching to Linux or macOS instead could prevent potential troubles affecting your device?

Regardless of the circumstances, thanks to different operating systems available, you have the freedom to see what they have to offer, and you should take that opportunity.

Clean Dust Inside

Clean Dust Inside 1

Do not let the filth inside the computer go out of hand because you will need to replace the hardware. As soon as you notice that the computer is overheating and making loud noises (from internal fans), take it apart and see what the dust situation is like. If there is too much dust inside, clean it first before you use the computer again.

Now, for PC owners, it should not be too difficult to clean the dust, but the same cannot be said for those who have a laptop. Taking a laptop apart and putting it together is challenging, particularly when you have no experience. And hardly anyone would want to risk damaging their device, right?

If you are reluctant to clean a laptop’s dust yourself, get someone who can clean it for you. Maybe there is an individual who specializes in cleaning laptop dust? Or maybe you can find a computer service store. Taking such an approach would mean paying money, but the investment is worth it if it means not having to worry about potentially damaging your laptop.
